God I Hope Gigi Grande and the staff of the Correspondents (ABS-CBN)can Read this!
I, just like many others, am a Call Center Employee. I have worked hard to get to the position I currently hold. My life has been altered according to the Call Center lifestyle. It is not luxurious or glamorous as it sounds. Or as easy as others may think.
I have a daughter that I hardly get to see anymore. A bed I hardly sleep in anymore. Life passes me by each and every day I stay at work. My world has revolved around giving support to people I hardly know. I earn money just like many others (what ever the job may be). My job is not easy, lesser people have buckled under the pressure. But I love my job. It puts food on the table. Clothes on my back. Life in my stale, bland living.
For anyone to call my job easy, is an insult of the highest degree. I work just as hard as anyone else in any profession you may compare. I earn the same money with the same effort and responsibility as any worker does. I eat at the same turo-turo and the same classy restaurants as any other worker. I enjoy the coffee in Starbucks, Seattle's Best or Aling Nenangs Kapihan in the corner store. I sport the latest in fashion and the oldest in clothing. I live a nocturnal life and I am not a burden to my Family and the Economy for that matter.
I live in a melting pot of ages, educational attainment, generations, nationalities. I am not a cliche or part of a fad. I have removed my mask and gone beyond the normal life. I am no longer part of the crowd of Nine to Fivers. No longer the slave of silly societal rules. Yes I am different. As different as you are from your neighbor and yet as same as the air we both breathe.
I have moved up a notch for i have cornered the market of "Night Jobs."
I will not be branded as one who has an easy job. I will not set for myself a specific age bracket of friends and co-workers. I will not let my educational attainment limit me. And I am not an "Otso-otso", a "Spaghetti" or a Korea Novela to be considered a FAD. I do serious work. I earn serious money. And I demand serious respect. Why? Because I am a Call Center Agent, part of the work force that pays taxes... and I earned It.
