Loss
Surrounded by great sorrow
Of tears here and there
To stand in one corner... a Spectator
One unable to feel... Afraid to feel
Knowing the pain of loss
That time has mended but never erased
Knowing that their pain is the same
And yet so extremely different
Do I smile when they greet?
Do I bow in solemn empathy?
Extend my hands in full sympathy?
Or do I stand here...
I spin the web of stories
Of strands laden with light jokes
A compensation for my ability to feel
But inability to express in immediacy
Words I could have wholeheartedly said
Gestures I would have distinctively shown
But I could not... For this was their moment..
Their moment to mourn...
In honor of a person who meant a lot to them
I stood in the corner... Trying not to be noticed
To let them mourn... Cry... Remember...
And say goodbye...
